Principal’s Message - November/December 2008

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Community Members:

Now that the clocks have officially been turned back, it is fitting that we shift our focus from the opening of the school year to the winter ahead. We reflect on the success of homecoming weekend, we celebrate the fall sports teams as their seasons come to a close; we look forward to the fall theater production of “Once Upon A Mattress,” which will run from November 6 through the 8th. As always, we are proud of our students’ academic achievements and look forward to continued success as the school year unfolds.

Parents and senior students are reminded that the Guidance Department deadline for January applications is December 1. In addition to facilitating the college application and financial aid process, the Guidance Department is hard at work coordinating the NCAA Clearing House presentation scheduled for November 5th, at 7:00 P.M. in the high school library. I encourage all parents and students to attend the PTSA meeting prior to this event at 6:30 P.M. in the high school library.

Some additional dates to remember aside from those mentioned already within this letter are:

PTSA- 11/5 at 6:30 P.M. (There is no meeting scheduled for December)
Winter Sports begin- 11/19
District Wide Sheltering Drill- 11/19
Natural Helpers Weekend- 11-22-11/24
Fall Concert- 11/24 at 7:30 P.M.
Parent Teacher Conferences- 11/25 (Schools closed)
SAT I & II- 12/6 (Administered at other sites)
ACT- 12/13 (Administered at other sites) Coffee House- 12/19

Since I have arrived at Shoreham-Wading River High School, I continue to find myself amazed at the effort and support the students and community pour into the Community Relations Holiday Project. I am very proud to be a part of a district that places a tremendous emphasis on meaningful and rewarding activities that serve others. The benefits of this project are not only seen in the immediate impact on struggling families but also in sense of compassion and humility that it instills in the students. I want to thank you again for all that you do to help our students help those in need around us.

I hope you and your family enjoy the season ahead, and I look forward to seeing you at the many events this exciting time of year has in store for our students.

Sincerely,

Dan Holtzman
Principal
